Meet Your Self-Care Strategist and MOVEMENT MEDICINE Mentor, Marisha Doan.
Marisha is a Pilates and yoga teacher, a nutritionist, and a movement expert specializing in chronic pain, postnatal recovery, and injury care and prevention.
She carries deep wisdom on creating adaptable, healing movement practices that build strength safely while reducing pain.
And she comes by that wisdom honestly.
Marisha has given birth twice in the past decade (#2 came in June 2020, when access to childcare and in-person wellness services was extremely limited), and experienced diastasis recti, S.I joint injury, and pelvic floor issues that she is still working to heal.
And in fall of 2021, just as she was starting to rebuild her strength and her life post-pregnancy AND post-pandemic, Marisha fell off her bike and broke her right elbow.
She got the best treatment available, which involved a very invasive surgery and a minimum of three months without ANY use of her right arm whatsoever.
But even when the doctors told her she may NEVER regain the use of her right arm, she stayed committed to continuing to move her body in ways that she could.
Marisha had to rewrite a LOT of stories…
…about what a movement practice CAN or SHOULD look like.
Because the practice she has today does NOT look the way it did in her twenties, with the hardcore abdominal exercises and handstand sequences she used to love.
But it DOES reduce her pain and improve her mobility. Yes, she can use her right arm again - and she can even play with her kids, work in her garden, and go on hikes in the woods.
And, her practice connects her to her Inner Knowing - and gives her the steadiness she needs to navigate, even when things get really hard.
THAT is the kind of practice that Marisha can teach you how to create for yourself in MOVEMENT MEDICINE: The 12-Week Chronic Pain Freedom Lab.
